Guys, the ride database is live...
Feel free to discuss rides and routes here.
Please feel free to post up details of routes at NQRiders.com for inclusion in this file set.
If you don't have access or the ability to use the software required to do this electronically, please just post up a DETAILED description and we'll endevour to add it to the files.
There are three files, all containing details on the same routes.
******************
Google Files (.kmz)
******************
The Google file is a Google Earth '.kmz' file. Simply double click this file and Google Earth will open up and present you with the routes.
You can use the 'Places' box on the left aplelette by drilling down to 'Temporary Places', then 'MapSource' to view individual routes.
Google Earth is ideal because it's free, you can move the globe around and view the route dynamically. You also get a detailed view of the terrain.
You can get the latest version of Google Earth for free from their Downloads page.
Note: You may need to turn on some of the Google Earth 'Layers' to see map and/or terrain features.
******************
Garmin Files (.gdb)
******************
The Garmin file is great if you own a Garmin device that supports .gdb files and you have a Garmin map tool installed on your PC.
If this is the case, when you double click the .gdb file, the Garmin allpication will load and you will be able to manipulate the routes directly.
These files were created using the WGS 84 datum, which seems to be the Garmin mapping default.
************************
GPS eXchange files (.gpx)
************************
Pretty much any GPS that supports file transfers will accept the .gpx file. Please consult the instructions or user manual for your GPS unit when attempting to transfer .gpx files.
Guys, I'm going to post up a .zip that includes some rides in three formats, .kmz (Google Earth), .gdb (Garmin) and .gpx (GPS eXchange).
Doing it this way should encompass all technical levels and provide the greatest versatility of the data.
Don't know what all this means?? For most of you, the best thing to do is download the .zip file we've provided and simply double click the .kmz file... of course you need Google Earth installed first.
Download the latest version of the ride database:
Enjoy.

hey Brad, could not download file said invalid key, can you send me file to my email at alalpal@bigpond.com?
Thanks
Yeah, I've been meaning to put it on the NQR server, I'll look into it before the weekend.
Thanks mate
I finally got around to uploading the file, it now resides on the NQR server.
What we need now is for people to supply details of their favorite roads, remembering that I am geographically challenged and rely on the GPS...![]()
