    Default Motorcycle Rally's

Well after going to no rally's last year I feel a need to rally.

Anyone with any info on rallies happening around Qld, or anywhere else I guess pls post them in here.

Stinger rally @ Mt Fox west of Ingham (run by MRA Townsville) will be held on 3rd weekend of May 2010.

Last went to that in 2004 when I was living in Cairns. Rode down wiht FNQ Touring Club, other then the corrugations it was a good ride to a great rally.

Central Coast Motorcycle Touring Club usually run the Finch Hatton Rally, (strangley enough @ Finch Hatton) every Easter for 4 days, 2-4 April 2010 . This is a back to basics rally byo everything.

They also run Wogs in the Bush Rally, south of Mirani. 2nd to 4th of July 2010.

The Finch Hatton rally is just standing around in the gorge talking shit and sleeping on the ground.
    Bugger that.
If you want to do a run at easter then we should go and do the tablelands.
Yes i know it's your old haunt.
But i'd rather stay at Mt Molloy or Malanda and hammer the roads, than do the "rally party game" bullshit.
That said, if something interesting comes up lmk.

Jesus Rusty, Stop beating around the bush mate, tell us what you really mean.
Actually tend to agree with you on Finch Hatton, the sleeping with leech's, snakes, goanna,s & getting flooded in last time I went got a bit stale on me too. I am thinking more distance to rally, I would really like to go to Imbil (Nov) again. A decent days ride eachway.

Mate only thing I have against doing the Tablelands (@ Easter, Aust Day, Christmas Hols) is the public holiday overpolicing policy. Rode back to Cairns from here one Easter, 10 radar sites from Ayr to Ingham, seriously that is one every 20klm's average.

I am very keen to go back & ride the Tablelands otherwise . Staying @ Mt Molloy or Peeramon are the preferred, or Dad lives in Mareeba......

Has anybody put any though towards the NQriders trip to the hills later in the year?

Nathan, i'm ready to go anywhere anytime, until the crush starts.
    I've done over 12 K kms since xmas !!

Agreed Errol, the usual holiday breaks means more traffic and more cops.
But i'd like to get one more run in [again] before the crush starts.

My holidays are flexible can change them at short notice and pinch extra days when i need them.
But some folks only get them at certain times, hence the easter suggestion.

Andrew "outbackbiker" has floated an idea for the tablelands on the last weekend in march.
But you need at least 4 or 5 days total to make the run worthwhile.

Suck it and see i suppose.

    Cheers R.

so Rusty do you think the run up with the "other mob" is a good idea!!
I'm always a bit cautious riding with people I don;t know (AKA viffer boy LMAO)
just see it as a good oportunity do just cruise up with a group might take the boredom out of slabbing?
Then on the sunday there is a few unofficial rides planned by local blokes that know the roads??
i wouldn't be looking to head back home till mon or tues,
wouldn't do it over easter, to dangerous ... for license & limb!!

Depends on when you want to go.
The worst of the slab is Mackay Townsville.
Once you get to Ingham the road is interesting and you dont want to go to Cairns* anyway.
Turn left at Innisfail and head up the Palmerston, stay at Malanda or Ravenshoe.

Running with a big group sounds like a good idea, but will turn a long day into a far too bluddy long day.
Innisfail is 700km from Mackay. Malanda 800.
You need to grit your teeth, dont fuck around along the way, and just get it done.

    * Accom in Cairns is plentiful and cheap, pubs and restaurants are many. Great party town.
Gotta decide whether to ride or party, on a short trip there probably isnt time to do both.

Fwiw i know where the roads are and where the pubs are.
More than happy to take folks with me, or do it by myself.
Atm the credit card is looking a bit sad.

So the current plan for me is the week before easter.
Cant be on the road on good friday, nothing will be open.

But happy to kick the plan around.
See if we can please most of the people some of the time.

Doh! Just consulted the calendar and realised the 27 Mar IS the start of the week before easter!
    Maybe. Depends on the finances.
If not, late April early May might be a better go.
Gotta gat some overtime between now and then!

Rusty I think the 27 is the week before easter??
either way I'll be on your trip or theirs , play it by ear .
The biggest prob for me to get up there for the run sat morn is I can't get away from here till 4 pm friday so have to push through in the dark to the towers the night before < & them bloody big grass hoppers come out after dark on that road.
Good & bad about traveling in a large group , i suppose if you get sick of it , just do your trick & get far away!!
Sorry i forgot you know all the local haunts up that way prob better than the locals too!
i think it's around 900 odd k from here to cairns shortest way is via townsville & not the lynd as i thought.

Haha you beat me by a minute.lol.
No worries < I might just just have to do it twice then!!
weather will be nice in may & should have got wheat planting under control by then as well.

I think the all bike drags is an excellent place to have the NQ riders get together.
slow is smooth and smooth is fast.

Don't forget Dyno Day on May 29... all for a good cause... We're fund raising for PCFA (Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia) this year. We're also making a night of it in Ayr.

$10.00 nomination fee for your bike, $5.00 donated directly to PCFA, $5.00 to Burdekin Motorcycles, which covers your food and drinks.

You get the dyno chart as well...

I have spread the word to CCMTC about this Bruce & hope to get a few more bikes up from this area.

Looks like I will be mounted on a CBR1000FH '87 for Dyno day this year.

It will give me a baseline for what to expect when she hit's the strip later in the year.

Probably be around 100hp being a Jap import I suspect.

Not ZRX territory but........., when my boss offers me his bike to put on the strip, who am I to argue

Well last minute decision, I am heading to Stinger Rally.
Can't leave work early today so probably a 7am start tomorrow.
Does not leave much time @ rally, but I have had enough of being stuck here every weekend & work is bloody hectic @ the moment.
5.5 to 6 hrs each way i figure with all these unmarked bloody revenue raisers wasting my fing tax dollars.
Anyone else who is going, see ya there.

How was the Stinger Rally Errol?

Are you going to WITB this year?

    Cheers,

I beleive the Stinger had a good turn out Pete .

I personally, rode 570k's to a rally site 1 week after the rally . Then turned around & rode back down the hill to Ingham & rang a mate in T/ville & caught up for a few beers & 2 yrs worth of catchup .

Still had a bloody good ride, nice day on Saturday 750 klms for the day & 400K cruise home on Sunday.

The road on top of Mt Fox has a lot more bitumen then I recall.

The high speed run back down the hill was interesting with the bitumen/dirt overlay on steep decents into switchback corners in the mottled light of the afternoon sun thru the rainforest canopy.

Bloody glad I grew up on dirt bikes & the ZRX is a LOT like an XR 600 on steriods, minus the suspension & tyres of course.

The dirt sections down below the rainforest were 4 to 6 lanes wide 100kph no worries, just look out for the few hundred head of cattle ON the road.

The new (to me) ring road in T/ville was a little confusing when I first hit it heading north. Bloody sure the sign said stay left for Ingham. Then a few hundred? metres up the road Ring Road turn right for Ingham????

So I just went the "not so old to me" way, & veered left like the last dozen times thru T/ville.

Coming back I got on the Ring Road all good.

Mackay could learn a bloody lot from T/ville regarding roads & keeping up with expansion.

New bypass's north & south to Charlies Trousers as well.

Shit last time I raced @ the drags @ Bohle in the early 90's the road was dirt. Now it's the northern bypass.

You going to Dyno Day this year?

Glad you had a good ride mate!

Not doing the dyno day this year. I'm heading off on a "FarRide" down to Mitchell tomorrow so I;ll be a long way from Ayr on Saturday. Will be with you in spirit though. Are you taking the white whale with you?

    Cheers,
