    Default Tablelands Xmas-New Year

    Gonna do it.
    Rough plan.

Go Boxing day, Saturday, everything should be open.
When we get to where we get to, it's sat nite!

Do the Gillies on Sunday with all the local yokels.
The line up at the Mountain View is a must see.

    Accom options:
Malanda Hotel, Top of the Gillies, Top of the Palmerston, Nuff said.
Tully Falls Hotel Ravenshoe Highest pub in Qld.
    Mt Molloy Hotel
    Take your pick in Cairns.
    Plenty of others...

Weather? Hot and wet is guaranteed.
    How wet? Watch this space.

    I'm making plans to go.
If i go by myself, so be it.

Andrew if you want to have a lash.
Could meet you in Towns vegas on the way.
If you go via the Towers will save the miles.

Need minimum 4 days, 5 days is better.
My plan is not to make a firm plan.
Just take the credit card, some dry clothes, and go.
[and a BM stuffed to the gills with spare parts ]

    Open to offers of company.
Or happy to meet others up there.

I only have this week [xmas/ny] off atm.
And i missed out a few weeks ago on the same plan.

I can't go unfortunately, too many family considerations at this time and I have just come back from there, so would be unlikely to get a leave pass, however it is a terrific part of the world.

    Yeah i'm watching the weather.
The two wettest towns in Qld are Tully and Babinda.
You can expect rain on the coast.
But i dont see the monsoon through coming atm.

    Will keep watching.
    But the plan is go.

    Howdy,

I have the opportunity to head off on the bike over the Christmas break and thought Cairns would be a nice run to start with

No ranges for me though LOL

The Gillies is a stern test no doubt.
But the locals cope with it, driving cars, trucks, 4wds towing boats, all manner of stuff.
Yeah the bikes give it plenty, but that is their call.

If range roads scare you to death.
There is something missing in your education.
Either it is technique, or experience, or both.

To say that you dont want to run ranges but will do the run to Cairns.
The northern side of the range crossing between Ingham and Cardwell is a bluddy steep downhill run.
Are you going to stop there? Turn around and go home?

When you ride unknown roads you take every corner on its merits.
Good posture good lines and ride at a pace to suit the conditions.

Afaic, i have a better chance of being hurt by riding in town with circumstances i can not control.
Than by riding in the hills where i can apply a measure of control.
[Continually updating my risk assessment as i proceed.]

All the best with your adventure.

Well said that man. Respect the bike and the road (corner), but don't fear it. The minute you become afraid, you lose.

Wow, that was deep. They must be putting something special into Bundy these days.

If you come out of every corner thinking. Damn I could have done that faster , you have succeeded in riding within your ability.
If you come out of the corner thinking. Damn that was close..you simply went in too fast for your ability.
You manage the situation, no one else.
