    Default buying tyres in mackay

can anyone recommend who I can go to to get a new front tyre?
Not some front counter knob that know shit, and will sell whatever is on the shelf...

bearing in mind, the FJ1200 is pretty hard on front tyres being a total curb weight including me at around 350Kg and a tyre that can handle speeds without falling to bits after 2,000km ie if I can get 10,000km out of a 1/2 descent tyre, I'll be happy.

    current front Tyre is a Micheline me880 120/70 b17 mc 58v

Rear is a battlax bt45r 150/80x16m/c and I am happy with it's performance.

Talk to Phil Wilson at Norside Motorcycle wreckers. He can get any sort of tyre in that you want. He holds a reasonable stock too.
He also has an electronic tyre balancer.

Your bike is a similar weight to my ST1100.
I use the Avon Storm,,,fantastic grip and the last rear lasted well over 20000km and the front has done about 26000 or 27000km.

These are very popular in Europe and are known as a top shelf wet weather tyre.

Make sure you tell him that I sent you before you ask for a price, He looks after people i refer.

Avon Storm is also a very popular tyre for Busa brigade, can't comment personally as I have not tried them yet.

Haven't checked with northside yet, but date stamps on the tyres are: 3601 front, 4505 rear, so that would be an 8 year old tyre on the front :-0

    Anyone in town selling Metzelers?

Kinda frustrated with the last two Bridgie rears.

Great topic and info guys. Sounds like Phil is customer focused which is a rare thing in our town.

Just wondering if you guys who have tried the Avon Storms have sampled Michelin Pilot Road 2s.

Looking for your opinions on the pros and cons of each what you prefer.

Not worried about which one lasts longer as I reckon both are designed to last a decent amount of time. More interested in the performance of both grip wise and wear characteristics.

I have tried the Michies and found them to be a pretty decent all round road tyre so just wondered if the Avon actually bettered it.

I have Storms on my ST1100 and it has mever let go, not that it is overpowered, but I have cracked the throttle open at some pretty big lean angles and it hasnt worried me one bit, , My pillion often has here toes dragging on the ground,

They are very popular in Europe and NZ where they seem to make an effort to sell them.
BIKE magazine has done a few comparison tests ovr the years and the Storms are always at the pointy end of the resuts.

    Pilot Road 2;s

have a search here for my issue with the Pilot road 2 front tyre, In short it was crap as far aas feedback goes. I did suffer chatter from it and it felt like it was always about to let go,,,but it never did. I scrapped it after 2 weeks and put on the familiar Pilot power.

As for the Pilot Road 2 rrear,, I aam on my 6th ot 7th one I think, Wont get anything else. I get as much as 12000km out of them with my normal rididng on the Blackbird which is mostly 2 up and we do quite a few long trips with luggage etc, Even a return trip to Brisbane and back gbarely shows and squaring off. I havent had any issues with cornering grip either.\

I have been tempted to try the Avons on the bird but I am so used to the Michelins I cant bring myself to change...lol

Whilst checking the camel for squashed goanna's between their toes I vaguely remembered
I have a Moto Guzzi parked somewhere and it wears Pilot Power on
the front and a Pilot Road 2 on the back with no drama's.

Yeah I have run the same set up both with the Pilot Power up front and Pilot Road rear as well as the PR2 rear at various times.

I was just wondering how these Avons stack up against the Michies, which I have a bit of a soft spot for, much like Brett by the sounds of it.
