Wow, what an amazing day!!!
Those of you who didn't make it down today missed some absolutely awesome action in all classes, Ross even won the GP125 class on the 4-Stroke Rising Sun Honda sponsored Moriwaki MDH-250!!
However, we'll deal with the Motards as I saw it happen... I missed a lot of action lower down as I was too intent watching Tim and Ross all day...
So, qualifying saw Ross take pole, with Tim in second on the grid, and two southern racers filling out 3rd and 4th. Tim Hill, one of the Whitsundays Moto Sports lads was on Rob Crossley's bike, and managed to slot into 7th, a major achievement given the bike still had dirt bike suspension.
Race 1
They held the lads a bit too long on the start, and both Ross and Tim suffered for it, their clutches heating and launching their front tyres skywards... Tim came out better than Ross, settling into 4th, whilst Ross unfortunately stalled, and gave the whole field a good 10 second lead before he got under way again.
Tim had a couple of moments, but settled quickly into third behind one of the Brisbane lads on a YZ 450, whilst Jesse Whacker on a Morgan and Whacker sponsored 2009 CRF-500 (custom 500cc big bore kit) took the advantage and began opening up a lead.
Meanwhile, Ross started slicing through the 19 bike strong field, taking up to 4 riders at a time.
On lap 6, Tim slipped into second, and started hauling Jesse in, meanwhile back in the pack, Ross set a new outright track record, a low 38.1. Amongst the traffic
Tim ran Jesse down, however ran out of laps, and was unable to put the Burdekin Motorcycles sponsored YZ 450 in front of the CRF, despite running a personal best 40.0 lap time, slicing .8 off his previous best ever lap time there.
Ross finished an outstanding fourth, earning a whole legion of new fans in the process.
Race 2
Race 2 saw Jesse Whacker, Tim, the Brisbane based YZ racer (R42) and Ross lining up on the front row.
The lights changed, and Ross hole shotted to the front, Jesse Whacker in second, and Tim in third.
Ross went about carving up the track, skipping away on his CRF, whilst Tim and Jesse held a titanic battle for second.
It was an awesome spectacle to watch, Ross riding like a man possessed and Tim slugging it out, lap after lap, with Jesse.
They announced Ross had broken the record again, dipping into the 37's, with a 37.9!!!
One and a half laps out, Tim rode around the outside of Jesse on turn three and held it to take second. None of us knew where to look... Ross, Tim, Ross, Tim.... Into the last turn for the last time, they came across a back marker, Tim colliding with him, which baulked Jesse, allowing Tim to hold on for the 2nd again!
At the end of the race, Ross had set the new record, and Tim, once again had set a new personal best, running into the 38's, with a 38.8 second lap, pulling a whole second off his lap times from his last outing at the Kart track a month ago.
Race 3
We thought it couldn't get much better than the last race, how wrong we were...
Ross once again skipped away, in his stunning display of skill and ability, on the Rising Sun Honda/Clake sponsored CRF.
Once again, Jesse Whacker and Tim had one of the most awesome battles, Jesse learning from the last race not to run so tightly into turn 3. Tim was hounding him all race, with the 500 just having a little more mumbo down the straights, the Burdekin Motorcycles YZ 450 out turning the CRF into the corners.
However in the 2nd last lap, Tim seized an opportunity to strike, snatching second place.
To the Townsville Motorcycle Club, stand proud, you did an awesome job on the day!
Ross, you set a new benchmark
Tim, you stepped up again, taking a whole second from your previous best lap time. Bring on the triple clamps!!!
So the final result was:
1st Ross Taylor (68 points)
2nd Tim Lusk (66 points)
3rd Jesse Whacker (65 points)
